Jackson's Lingo

Ok, so when Shawn started telling Jackson he was going to bed in a few minutes he of course disagreed. Well anyways we were watching American Idol (we love it by the way and so does Jackson, he calls it the singing show) and Shawn paused it (we also love DVR-what took us so long to get that? It's a must if you like TV at all.) I'm way off topic-so I will need to blog about my thoughts on DVR or TIVO another time. Back to my story. The TV is paused and Jackson turned and looked at the TV and said, "don't pause it Daddy!" (Remember he's 2-almost 3) Shawn and I just froze and started laughing. Go figure, he is learning the lingo. It just really surprised us. I'm assuming he will be coming up with alot of things to say that will surprise us from here on out!

Jackson Reading

Since my kids have been waking up at 7:00 every morning I am not always ready for the day before them. Well I have had to get creative with what Ellee is going to do during that time. She likes to crawl into the bathroom and get me off task. I spend more time in the morning trying to redirect her and find things for her to do instead of finishing getting myself ready. Well I decided to recruit Jackson into helping keep Ellee busy, so I handed him a pile of books to read to her. He picked Guess How Much I Love You, sat down right next to her, opened the book and started reading. I have never really heard him read a book in his words, it was really cute. It started off like this...."Once upon a time there was a rabbit." (Turn the page) "Rabbit." (Turn the page) "Rabbit." (Turn the page) "Rabbit." (Turn the page) "Rabbit." (Turn the page) "The End." I guess there wasn't much to read in that book. Luckily he picked up the next book and it started with, "Once upon a time...." Ellee was, as a matter of fact, interested. Thank you Jackson! The next morning I had him read to her again. He picked "Guess How Much I Love You." I bet you can guess how the story went!

First Play

I took Jackson to see his first play today. We went on a date together to see Beauty and the Beast put on by Rogers High School students. It was amazing! He was so excited to go. He kept asking me all day if there was going to be a dragon in it and if it was scary. That's what he wanted!

Jackson sat through the entire thing and absolutely loved it. Every once in awhile he would turn to me and ask where the dragon was.

After the play I asked him what his favorite part was, he responded with "the beast." Of course he did! He now thinks he is a Beast.....What have I done????

With a haircut like that, who wouldn't want to go on a date with him?!

Garage Cabinets Phase III

I wish I would have thought to start this post on the first phase of this project. Better late than never. Well anyways, this is Shawn with his Dad, Tom, aka Papa. Papa is the mastermind behind this garage cabinet building/installation. According to Shawn, he is the quality control/inspector of the project. I heard him say at one point, "measure twice, cut once." (shop talk)
I call this phase three because this was Tom's third day down here working on the cabinets. This was not his third day in a row, but three different weekends. Now that's dedication to a project! Shawn absolutely loves working with his Dad and considers this great quality time with him. I'm assuming Shawn's learning amazing wood working skills and will pass them onto Jackson as his Dad is doing with him.
Notice the cabinets are built around a refridgerator (like in a kitchen, but this is our garage.) To the left is a bench that lifts for storage and a place to sit to take dirty shoes off (again this is the garage.) And who couldn't notice the framed art, I mean beer sign hanging (which if has to be hung anywhere at all is best in a garage.)
Shawn IS doing an amazing job with all of the projects around here...I need to keep him going on some of the paint projects before Spring and Summer begin. If you know him at all you can guess what he will be doing.
Yep, yardwork!

The reason I started the post now however in phase three of the project is that I believe there to be more phases. I never really quite know the plans, but when looking out in the garage there is another entire wall of my "stuff." That's wording it nicely. (please scroll down to see the evidence, you'll know when you see it).

I now have much nicer cabinets in the garage than in my kitchen...I've already asked if they can redo those, but I'm sure you can guess the answer I got. (It's apparently not a part of one of the phases) Posted by Picasa
Here's the wall in the garage with my "stuff." I don't think it's that bad....Shawn thinks differently.

The cabinets are absolutely amazing and it sure helps make this home seem more and more like ours. We're slowly McGowanizing it! (That's a compliment)

Until Phase IV....

The Swings

This was Ellee's first time on the swings at the park. She is 10 months old. Her cousin Marin is pushing her. As you can see, she absolutely loves it!

Boys and Girls I wanted to find out if anyone else thought this was interesting. Jackson has been categorizing boys and girls in unique ways. When I ask him what his favorite color is, he says blue and then he tells me that my favorite color is pink. I will then continue to ask him what other people's favorite colors are. No matter what, any boy I mention he says their favorite color is blue and pink for girls. The other way he categorizes boys and girls is by saying that boys are awesome and girls are cute. So if I ask him are you cute or awesome, he will respond by saying, "I awesome." If I ask him what is Daddy, he will say "awesome." If I ask him what about Ellee, he'll say, "Ellee's cute."

We haven't had conversations with him about boys and girls, but somehow he has distinguished between the two and likes to make generalizations.

According to Jackson: I'm cute, I like pink and this has nothing to do with this post, but he likes to tell me that I like spiders as well. But then again, if you are a girl reading this-You are cute and you like pink also! If you are a boy reading this-You are awesome and you like blue. I guess Jackson's not too far off about what we think of ourselves!
